Last night Fogel-Anderson was recognized with three awards at ABC's (Associated Builders and Contractor's) Heart of America Chapter 2011 Awards Banquet.  The event was held at the Overland Park Sheraton Hotel, and was attended by over 200 members and their guests.  The prestigious 2011 awards we were presented with include the STEP (Safety Training and Evaluation Process) Diamond Award, Ted Anderson Safety / Chapter Superior Contractor Award and The Kansas City Area Freedom Fighter.

STEP - ABC's STEP Diamond Award recipients represent companies with long-term records of exceptional safety performance, with EMRs at or below 0.700 (0.800 for companies with less than 100 employees) and average Incidence Rates at least 50% below construction industry averages.

Having achieved ABC's STEP Platinum Award for twelve consecutive years (in the past recognized as ABC National's highest safety honor) this year Fogel-Anderson was presented with the STEP Diamond Award; ABC's newest and highest safety honor.  2011 is the first year for the STEP Diamond Award.  With 516 STEP awards (Bronze, Gold, Platinum and Diamond) presented this year, the Diamond Award was presented to only 26 contractor's nationally.  Fogel-Anderson is one of only two to receive the award from the Heart of America Chapter.  This award places Fogel-Anderson in a select group of companies and positions Fogel-Anderson within the top 5% of the safest contractors in the United States. 

Ted Anderson Safety Award - ABC Heart of America established a new safety honor last year, the Ted Anderson Safety Award.  This award was named after our past President for his commitment to safety in the field, the construction industry, the ABC organization, and overall leadership.  It was a surprising honor that we were also presented with this award last night.  It is not only a tremendous honor to receive the award, but it is an honor that Ted was such a well respected and well thought of leader to have this award named after him.

Freedom Fighter Award – Fogel-Anderson was also presented with ABC's Kansas City area "Freedom Fighter."  This award was presented to us in recognition of our commitment and dedication to the organization's stance for free enterprise and fair opportunity in contracting.

The new branch sits on a "brownfield" site which was a property that had previously been occupied for 59 years by the Roney's Phillip's 66 service and filling station.  The site underwent EPA remediation to eliminate any ground-source contamination.

The Roney's service station had been a landmark in the Prairie Village Community.  So to keep the Community Connectivity alive within the neighborhood, UMB Bank installed an air compressor – now referred to as the UMB Inflation Station – for bicycling customers, neighbors and passerby’s to use. 

The bank’s exterior includes 80 year old reclaimed pickle barrels from Wisconsin made from redwood which construct the Rain-Screen.  Landscaping consists of native vegetation to reduce the amount of irrigation needed for the property; cutting back on water and energy costs.  However, a rain garden collects storm-water runoff to efficiently and effectively irrigate the property.

The design of the interior utilized the technique known as day lighting; the use of natural light, which contributes to lower energy costs for lighting and heating.  A comprehensive Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) plan was implemented aiding to the overall IAQ for the life of the facility.  Ductwork and absorptive materials were protected throughout construction and low VOC compounds were used.

A construction waste management program was effectively implemented; over 50% of the construction waste was recycled or reused.
